Choosing Your Shear Size

One size does not fit all. Shears come in various sizes, from 5 to 7 inches, to fit different client needs. Stylists often work with multiple sizes for different cutting techniques. Shorter lengths are ideal for precision cuts, while longer lengths are best for layering techniques.

Knowing Your Hands

Buying shears is like buying shoes. First, know your size. Typically, the size of your hand determines the size of the shears. To ensure optimal cutting, most shears should not extend beyond your palm.

Touching Points

Every pair of ABOVE shears has four main touch-points:

1. Thumb touches the static handle.
2. Ring finger touches the dynamic handle.
3. Little finger touches the finger rest.
4. First and middle fingers touch the shank of the static handle.

Little Finger Matters

Females tend to have shorter little fingers than males, so shears must be chosen accordingly. Pay attention to the finger rest: the shorter the little finger, the longer and wider the finger rest should be.

PALM and Fist
